[BTF #9] Content, Content, Content

PLUS: The impact of FTX

Welcome to Below the Fold! The weekend update for Premium subscribers. Writing live from a coffee shop in LA ☕️

Perks Recap

  • Transitioning the BTF weekend newsletter to Paragraph, a Web3-enabled newsletter platform next week. Paragraph has token-gating abilities that complement Unlock Protocol (subscription NFT tool). I’ll need to look into the the best way to transition payment flows from Substack + Stripe to Paragraph + Unlock without interrupting your experience. Don’t be alarmed when you start seeing this e-mail come from Paragraph!

  • I still have one more code for 6 free months of LinkedIn Premium. Let me know if you want it 🙂

What’s going on with TPan

Professional

Guest content: I’m starting to build out a process to have qualified guests to write content on Web3 with TPan. This will be a way for me to bring on fresh perspectives while freeing up a bit more time for myself to focus on other initiatives.

Partnered content: Continuing warm conversations with partners regarding content sponsorships. Still working through price points and closing the deal as I’m testing different ways of value exchange (eg: ‘What can you offer my audience?’ vs. ‘How much can you pay me?’)

Personal

FTX: I’m grateful that I haven’t been affected financially by the FTX situation, but it has impacted the way I think about the space. As someone that has entered the space full-time ~7 months ago, it’s disheartening to see that some of the biggest names in the space are actually wolves in sheep’s clothing. This isn’t new, but the scale of the fraud is unprecedented.

With the story still developing over the past week and the seemingly endless twists and turns, it’s exhausting. Notable people in the space have expressed similar feelings.

How many of us feel following the FTX news for a week

One of the worst things about this on top of people losing their money is the bad rap that crypto will get. Even though FTX itself isn’t crypto, people will conflate the two.

There’s no doubt that this will set the space back a number of years. At the same time, my hope is this will spur more innovation and good actors to double down on why they do the work they’re doing. I hope to do my tiny part in pushing this space forward with integrity. We need more of it.

What I'm thinking about for my writing

  • Social media platforms doubling down on community —> Web3 enabled features like wallets?

  • More interesting Web3 growth tactics I’ve come across

Have a great weekend!
